In the past we have taken all link requests at face value and provided the site was generally acceptable in the wider community and not a known spammer, we have traded links.

Recently we suffered two consecutive Google page rank downgrades on our anchor site for which we could find no cause until we started checking back links. We had unwittingly provided links to numerous sites whose links are never indexed either as a result of ignorance on the part of webmasters or deliberate scams. Consequently we had a a large number of unreciprocated links for which we suffered the double wammy of no return link plus the penalty for our unrealistic ratio of outbound to inbound links.

Consequently all potential link partners sites are now checked carefully, unreciprocated links removed and requests declined where existing link pages are not being indexed and for new sites those that have little chance of being indexed.

We will trade links with established sites provided most of your link pages have some page rank ie they have been indexed in a major search engine and visitors can access those pages without exercising the detective skills and diligence of Sherlock Holmes. Your link pages must be hosted on the domain for which the link is being requested and most definately not on a stand alone linking site.

For new sites, the links must be accessible to browsers from a link on the index page, the link page must not be more than two levels deep and must not be dynamically generated with a “?” in the url as search engines generally will not index such pages.

Although your category may not help our page rank, links provide us all with a little extra traffic over time.

All link exchange requests must be made from a real e-mail address or contain a contactable e-mail address as the use of bodgie email addresses on such requests that direct potential link partners to an add url page on a website is a growing practice.

We regret that it has become necessary to set out such conditions for exchanging links but the burgeoning practice of fraudulent linking practices by a growing number of webmasters is both costly in terms of page rank and time for those on the receiving end.
